Replicate Designs inc. specializes in creating high-quality representations that visually engage people beyond what traditional blueprints, sketches or interpretations can accomplish.
With a focus on authenticity and functionality, our 3D physical models, props, industrial prototypes, and custom moulds are used to communicate architectural designs and new product designs, as exhibition displays or as props for TV, film and advertising.
Our team came together in 2004, and is comprised of individuals with diverse international experiences across multiple categories. It is our hope to push the boundaries of conventional model making in Canada to a new level, bringing a different perspective into the model making industry.
Felix started his career in England as a professional ceramics artist where for more than 20 years he was instrumental in the design, sculpting, mould making and manufacture of dynamic pieces for "Bernard Rooke Pottery" his father's pottery studio in Ipswich, England.
After coming to Canada his reputation for high-quality ceramics led him to a Calgary company and eventually to the set of Kevin Costner's film "Open Range", where he produced a ceramic tea set that the star smashed during a pivotal scene.
Felix is also a fiberglass laminator, and his portfolio boasts many projects using this material, including the making of fuel cells for the aerospace industry.
If you were one of the millions of people who watched the movie "Saving Private Ryan", and were completely blown away by its realism and authenticity, then you are already aware of Shelli's incredible talents. After extensive training as an industrial model maker in London, England, Shelli became involved in the UK's challenging television and film industry. For nine years her skill helped create props and models in a number of TV productions and films as well as architectural models, advertising billboards and magazines articles.
Along with Paul and Felix she set up Replicate Designs with the hope of bringing a new level of model making to Canada.
For some, model making is seen as a time-honoured, old-school profession — which might be true until you meet someone like Paul who is adapting new technologies and processes to the projects he works on.
A graduate of both the University of Calgary and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and a professional member of IDSA, (Industrial Designers Society of America), Paul's emphasis is on industrial design, 3D modeling and functional prototyping where he combines new technology with excellent craftsmanship to all projects.
